Father Sebastian Bukenya was born and raised in Uganda, where he grew up as one of ten children. At the age of 11, he entered the junior seminary, beginning a lifelong journey of discerning God's call to the priesthood. He completed his seminary formation in Uganda and was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Kampala on August 12, 2006.
After serving for five years as a priest in his home archdiocese, Fr. Sebastian came to the United States to pursue graduate studies. He studied at the University of San Diego before continuing his education at Loyola University Chicago. He also earned a Master of Arts in Theology from the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome and a Masters of Arts in Justice and Peace Studies.
Before being appointed Pastor of St. Elizabeth of Hungary and Santa Ysabel Mission, Fr. Sebastian served as a parochial vicar at St. Brigid Parish and Blessed Sacrament Parish in the Diocese of San Diego. In 2022, he was officially incardinated into the Diocese of San Diego. Fr. Sebastian is deeply committed to building vibrant faith communities rooted in the Gospel, the celebration of the sacraments, and compassionate service. He finds his greatest joy in the people he is called to serve and considers it a privilege to accompany individuals and families as they grow in faith and deepen their relationship with Christ.
