Father Roldan (“Dan”) Nunez was born and raised in Mindanao, in the southern part of the Philippines. He is the eldest of ten siblings. In 1982 at 16 years of age, he entered St. Peter’s College Seminary in Butuan City. In 1986, after completing his baccalaureate in English and philosophy, he studied theology at St. John Vianney Seminary in Cagayan de Oro City, which is run by the Society of Jesus, (commonly know as the Jesuits). In 1992 he received his Sacred Theology Baccalaureate and Masters of Pastoral degrees and was ordained a priest on April 7, 1992.
Before coming to San Diego, he spent 25 years in his Home Diocese carrying out parochial works as associate pastor in a number of parishes and performed as pastor in two robust parishes. Additionally, he functioned as dean in eight parishes, was the Parochial School Director, Coordinator of the Diocesan School board, and a member of the Senate of Priests.
Fr. Dan arrived in San Diego in 2016 and his first assignment as Associate Pastor of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Vista. Just two years later he was elected by Cardinal McElroy as a member of the Presbyteral Council. In 2019 he was appointed Associate Pastor of Our Lady of the Valley, which comprises St. Mary's Church, Our Lady of Guadalupe and Capilla Cristo Rey in Imperial Valley where he served for three years. In 2022 he was called to serve as Associate Pastor of St. Rose of Lima Church in Chula Vista.
In February of 2024, Cardinal McElroy granted Fr. Dan's request for Incardination in the Diocese of San Diego.
On July 1, 2024, Fr. Dan was promoted to Pastor of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Julian and the Santa Ysabel Indian Mission,
